Ciao a tutti! Vi avevo parlato poco tempo fa di una mostra che si sposa bene con Halloween, e che si tiene al Metropolitan Museum di New York. La mostra si intitola "Death Becomes Her, a century of Mourning Attire" una mostra dedicata agli abiti usati durante le funzioni funebri o per i lutti nel periodo che spazia dal 1815 al 1915. In quei periodi, la mortalita' era molto alta ed era comune avere dei lutti in famiglia. Il lutto all'epoca testimoniava anche il rispetto per il defunto ma anche lo stato sociale della famiglia. I materiali cambiavano a seconda delle disponibilita' economiche. Circa 30 installazioni alcune delle quali mai esibite prima che ci danno un'idea anche dell'evoluzione della moda, e del colore nero che simbolo di un evento negativo poi verra' adottato comunemente per altre funzioni e per la vita di tutti i giorni. La mostra e' organizzata cronologicamente e include abiti della regina Vittoria e della regina Alexandra . Potrete anche usufruire di tour gratuiti cliccate qui per le date e gli orari dei tour. Vi ricordo che il costo d'entrata per il Metropolitan Museum of Art e' a offerta libera nonostante il costo pubblicato sia 25$ e si chieda di pagare il prezzo richiesto. La mostra durera' fino al 1 Febbraio 2015 . L'entrata include anche l'accesso nella stessa settimana ai Cloisters , che vi consiglio di visitare, un museo che si trova a Nord di New York guardate questo mio vecchio post per informazioni. Inoltre fino al 2 Novembre recatevi alla terrazza del Metropolitan per un'altra installazione all'aria aperta di Dan Graham da dove potrete anche godere di una bellissima vista su New York. Il Metropolitan Museum e' aperto tutti i giorni dalle 10 am fino alle 5.30pm e il Venerdi' e Sabato rimane aperto fino alle 9pm. Enjoy!
Hello you all! I found some time to visit this exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art , an exhibition of mourning attires from the 1830 to 1915 some of which were never being displayed before. The exhibit is called 'Death becomes her - a century of mourning attire' and it's just the right exhibit for Halloween! spooky because of the theme, but also elegant because of the lovely gowns and superb materials used and handcrafted jobs performed on these gowns. As soon as you enter you will hear some spooky music and you will be brought a century or more back and you will get a sense of the meaning of mourning attire during that period. Having a death in the family was pretty common, mortality rate was higher and dress code symbolized the social status of a family and the respect for the deceased. Another interesting exhibition by the Met which will be on display till February 1st 2015. I remind you that Met entrance ticket price is at your discretion but we want to support this amazing museum don't we? So please be considerate! This is our history and treasure! The Met is open every day from 10 am to 5.30 pm , on Friday and Saturday extended hours till 9pm. Enjoy!
